Although he rose to international fame when he starred as Marcus Brewer opposite Hugh Grant in About A Boy (2002), Nicholas Hoult had actually already appeared in a dozen films and TV productions before that. Born in Wokingham, England, his first acting job came at the age of six in the Fox Searchlight motion picture Intimate Relations (1996), starring Julie Walters and Rupert Graves. Guest appearances on numerous British TV series followed, before he would make his next feature film appearance in the starring role in About A Boy, based on the novel by Nick Hornby.

The movie was a huge hit and Nicholas’ performance earned him many nominations, as well as a Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for Best Performance by a Youth in a Leading or Supporting Role – Male.

Although Nicholas didn’t come from a showbusiness family (his father is a British Airways pilot and his mother is a piano teacher), as the story goes, at the age of three Nicholas was in the audience with his mother at a play when a director spotted him and suggested he should try acting.

From 2007 to 2008, Nicholas played a regular role as Tony Stonem in the British digital E4 series Skins, for which he received a Walkers Home Grown Talent Award nomination and a 2008 Golden Nymph nomination at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival.

Returning to film, he appeared alongside Colin Firth in A Single Man (2009), starred with Liam Neeson and Sam Wothington in Clash of the Titans (2010) and received a 2010 BAFTAs award nomination for the Rising Star award. He played Hank McCoy/Beast in X-Men: First Class (2011), the title role in Jack the Giant Killer (2012) and the lead in Warm Bodies (2012), which was shot in Canada. More recently, he starred in Young Ones (2014) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). He will next be seen in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse.

Nicholas was the face of Tom Ford eyewear for the spring 2010 collection and was named one of the “Breakout Stars to Watch for in 2011” by MTV Networks’ NextMovie.com.
