DEADLINE – Director George Nolfi has set Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Nicholas Hoult and Nia Long to star in The Banker, a fact based drama that Nolfi wrote with Niceole Levy. Romulus Entertainment is financing the film, with Brad Feinstein of Romulus (Fences, Beatriz at Dinner) producing.

The drama is based on the true story of two African American entrepreneurs, Bernard Garrett (Mackie) and Joe Morris (Jackson), who during the 1950’s tried to circumvent the racial limitations of the era and take on the establishment by recruiting a working class white man, Matt Steiner (Hoult) and training him to pose as the head of their business empire while they posed as a janitor and a chauffeur. Bernard’s wife Eunice (Nia Long), plays a key role in setting up the enterprise. Garrett and Morris become two of the wealthiest and most successful real estate owners in the country with Steiner as their front man, but their success brings about unforeseen risk of exposure that threatens everything.

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – The Weinstein Co. buyer Lantern Entertainment and 13 Films will distribute the Harvey Weinstein-tainted Thomas Edison biopic, as well as the unreleased horror film ‘Polaroid.’

13 Films has partnered with Lantern Entertainment, an affiliate of The Weinstein Co. buyer Lantern Capital Partners, to handle foreign distribution of the Harvey Weinstein-tainted historical epic The Current War.

The film, which focuses on the rivalry between electricity innovators Thomas Edison (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon), was a casualty in last year’s fallout of the revelations about the disgraced movie mogul, who acted as producer on the project.

The partners will also handle the foreign distribution of the unreleased horror pic Polaroid after both titles were acquired through Lantern’s acquisition of assets of TWC. Current War also stars Nicholas Hoult, Tom Holland, Katherine Waterston and Tuppence Middleton.

Fox has done some shake-ups with their schedule, and the new X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, was moved to a June 07, 2019 release date. It’s original opening date of February 14th went to Alita: Battle Angel. Also, Empire has released a new image from the film featuring our mutant heroes ready for action.

DEADLINE – Also, the next X-Men Dark Phoenix won’t open on Feb. 14 anymore, rather next summer in the June 7 slot. The trailer launched this week earning close to 8M YouTube views on Fox’s channel. Summer is not only a better date, but again, it gives the film a better shot to have a bigger opening in China. Why? The trailer clocked 44 million views in first 24 hrs of release online this week out of China.   Also, premium screens previously reserved for Gambit will be in play and provide an even bigger upside for the film. Dark Phoenix will be up against Illumination/Uni’s The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Lionsgate’s comedy Flarsky on that date.

DEADLINE – Hulu has given a 10-episode series order to Crossing Swords, a stop-motion animated comedy series from Robot Chicken executive producers John Harvatine IV and Tom Root. Nicholas Hoult leads the voice cast of the series, which also includes Luke Evans, Robot Chicken‘s Seth Green and Breckin Meyer, Tony Hale, Wendi McClendon-Covey, Adam Pally, Adam Ray, Tara Strong and Alanna Ubach.

Crossing Swords, which was originally ordered to pilot, hails from Robot Chickenproducer Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Television. It is set to premiere on Hulu in 2020.

Created by Harvatine IV and Root, Crossing Swords stars Hoult as Patrick, a goodhearted peasant who lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle. His dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when he learns his beloved kingdom is run by a hornet’s nest of horny monarchs, crooks and charlatans. Even worse, Patrick’s valor made him the black sheep in his family, and now his criminal siblings have returned to make his life hell. War, murder, full frontal nudity—who knew brightly colored peg people led such exciting lives?
